Grinding concrete floor: technological stages of work
During the pouring of concrete, the solution is stratified, while large fractions of the aggregate settle, and cement milk is formed on the surface. During operation, this weak top layer not only dusts, but also collapses quite quickly under the influence of external factors. To increase the strength of the surface, as well as in order to level it, grinding of the concrete floor is performed. As a result, the surface acquires the necessary roughness and is easily amenable to further processing. Polished concrete floors are impregnated with water-repellent mixtures, polished or painted depending on the purpose of the objects in which they are arranged.
Selection of equipment for work
The work is carried out using mosaic-grinding machines, which are specialized technological equipment produced for dimensional and textural processing of coatings made of concrete or natural stone. When grinding a concrete floor, the craftsmen first use milling cutters with large diamond grains, and then with fine ones.
Depending on the area of the room and its configuration, the most suitable modification of the mosaic grinder is selected. At the same time, the processing time of the concrete floor depends on the technical characteristics of the equipment. Usually in an hour it is possible to polish the surface of the floor, the area of which is 15-20 square meters.
Important! To efficiently and instantly remove dust from sanding concrete floors, an industrial vacuum cleaner is required.
When can concrete be grinded?
The quality of grinding depends on the correctly selected date of its implementation. After pouring fresh concrete screed, it is necessary to withstand at least 7 days, a maximum of 21 days. In this period, the concrete reaches the desired degree of strength, which does not allow the diamond cutters installed on the grinders to pull out the filler from the screed, which is fine crushed stone. It can be marble, granite, limestone or gravel.
Analysis of technological stages
All work is carried out in several steps:
- Foundation preparation is the most important step in the construction of a concrete floor. The coating is laid on a strong, rigid and even foundation, already existing or specially designed. The grade of concrete used for pouring floors for further grinding should not be lower than M200. If there are potholes and cracks in the existing concrete base, they must be repaired. After completion of repair work, the surface is treated with adhesive primer, which increases the adhesion of the screed to the base.
- The concrete foundation must be laid without interruption. To improve the performance of the floor, special additives are introduced into the finished concrete mortar taken from the concrete-mortar unit at a centralized supply. In the process of leveling the concrete mixture, it is necessary to use vibrating rails, which help to remove air bubbles from the mixture, and also reduce the likelihood of voids. Otherwise, these defects will open during grinding and will require additional time and materials to eliminate them.
- Grinding is carried out after the concrete coating has gained sufficient strength. In this case, the cement “milk” is removed and the whole matrix of concrete is opened.
- Processing the concrete surface with penetrating impregnation does not create a film coating, so the floors do not wear out.
Concrete floors are sanded even if polishing is planned in the future. In this case, marble or granite chips are added to the concrete, which not only gives greater strength to the polished and polished floor, but also increases its decorative appeal.
Concrete floors treated with mosaic grinders and impregnated with chemical compounds can withstand prolonged intense loads. They are satisfied both indoors and outdoors.
