8 mistakes that spoil your kitchen worktop the most

It is the countertop that accounts for the main “load” in the kitchen - it cuts food, puts hot pots and spills water. After some time, all this significantly affects its appearance, and therefore you should know the main mistakes that spoil the countertop and reduce its service life.

You use abrasive cleaners to wash

In daily care of the countertop, it will be enough to use a liquid detergent for dishes and a damp cloth. Abrasive products should be used only as a last resort - because of them, the paint on the countertop brightens, the protective coating is erased, the gloss disappears. Also, make sure that various means for removing fat do not get on the countertop - they will lead to the appearance of white spots, which are almost impossible to get rid of.

You keep small household appliances on the countertop

Very often on the countertop in the kitchen is all the household appliances that are available - a toaster, microwave, etc. But firstly, it is aesthetically ugly, and secondly, it can ruin the countertop. If the bottom heats up when using these electrical appliances, then due to constant temperature changes the countertop may change color or become cracked. In order to minimize these troubles, it is worthwhile to place a wooden cutting board or special hot stands under the devices.

You do not immediately wipe the puddles from the water

If you do not immediately wipe the water on the countertop, then having dried, it will leave an unpleasant surprise in the form of white stains - this especially applies to tap water. Therefore, do not be lazy and immediately pat the puddle with a towel.

You should also carefully insert the knives into the open vertical supports - a knife inserted into an inappropriate hole will leave scratches on the countertop with its blade.

You put hot pots on the countertop

No need to put hot pans and pans directly on the countertop - use hot coasters, wooden boards, and in extreme cases - thick kitchen towels.

You do not protect the countertop from sunlight

What could be nicer than having coffee in the kitchen on a sunny morning? However, your countertop will not be delighted with direct sunlight - their constant exposure leads to fading of paint and damage to the protective layer. Therefore, make sure that curtains or blinds hung on the windows.
