What kind of animal is bamboo flooring + an overview of its laying technology

Wooden floors are a classic that is always popular, but in the modern construction market you can increasingly find new materials that can become an alternative to traditional ones. For example, bamboo flooring is a fairly fresh solution for flooring, its popularity is growing every day. What are the advantages of this flooring, is it worth chasing new-fangled trends or is it better to give preference to the good old wooden parquet?

Why is bamboo flooring so good?

Modern technology and unique natural material together give an excellent product, bamboo flooring is different:

  • low cost (much cheaper than wood flooring);
  • high quality, wear resistance, durability (50% higher than that of oak flooring);
  • resistance to moisture;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • antistatic properties;
  • refractory properties;
  • exotic appearance, elegance and grace.

Parquet is made of bamboo fibers, treated in a special way. On high-tech equipment, horizontal or vertical gluing is performed, followed by varnishing in several layers. Thus, a glossy, matte or semi-gloss surface of various shades is obtained: from light yellow to dark coffee.

Laying bamboo flooring

The base for laying bamboo flooring is prepared in the traditional way: a cement screed is made, plywood is laid on top, and parquet is laid on top of it. Each step requires adherence to technology.

Preparatory phase - foundation preparation

The quality of the screed is given special attention. It should not have voids, cracks, level drops, adhesion to the base should be strong, peeling is unacceptable. Using self-leveling mixtures as the basis, one should adhere to the instructions and control the thickness of the obtained layer.

If necessary, steam and waterproofing is laid over the screed. Then, with dowels or screws, moisture-proof plywood is attached to the base.

Like any floor covering, bamboo flooring needs a certain period of time to acclimatize to new conditions. To do this, he is placed in the room where they are going to lay. The packaging must be opened, and the room must be maintained at normal temperature and humidity.

Direct styling process

Flooring is performed similarly to other types of flooring. Correct laying of bamboo flooring is done on dry moisture-proof plywood (12-15mm) in a room with normal humidity. The cement screed, which is under the plywood, must be absolutely dry, that is, from the moment of pouring it must pass at least 30 days.

Bonding parquet
Each parquet board must be glued!

Kraft paper with a density of 200-300 g / m is laid on top of plywood2. This allows you to minimize creak with a slight backlash. Since bamboo is a natural material, there are some differences in the shades of parquet planks, but with the right approach, this is more a virtue than a disadvantage. You need to simultaneously work with several packages of parquet, alternating them, then on the surface of the floor you will get a beautiful combination of shades that will delight the eye.

Each parquet die is laid on glue (two-component polyurethane is best suited) and fastened with nails or parquet studs, driven into the comb by an angle of 45 degrees. To avoid possible cracking when fixing with nails, you can drill holes in advance. After the glue has completely dried (about 36 hours), you can walk on the parquet, it is ready for use.

Care for such parquet

For those who decide to purchase bamboo flooring - reviews will serve as an additional incentive, since they characterize this material exclusively on the positive side.

Bamboo flooring in the interior
Bamboo flooring is a refined and economical solution.

Caring for bamboo flooring does not take much time and does not require any special costs. Daily dry cleaning and not too frequent wet, using ordinary water, will keep the coating in good condition. This also contributes to the maintenance of optimal humidity in the room at 60%. Although the material is sufficiently wear-resistant, the prevention of mechanical damage is never superfluous: you need to stick felt overlays on the furniture legs, then when you move it, there will definitely not be any traces on the floor.

If you are ready to discover something new, elegant and luxurious, then bamboo floors are perfect for you. They combine the warmth that a familiar tree gives us and the exotic appearance. The low cost of bamboo flooring allows you to use it not only for its intended purpose, but also widely used in the decoration of walls, niches and other interior elements, which helps to create an original design of the room.

      I lived in Thailand. No one there makes bamboo floors. Mostly just tile.

      Personally, I already got this bamboo flooring. Very expensive. Does not hold, creaks and knocks. Remodeling it is far from cheap. Do not get fooled by advertising - a complete lie.
