How to inexpensively update the floors in the apartment with paper
Practice shows that today, domestic consumers are reluctant to purchase cheap goods in construction stores, as the quality of work suffers because of this. Therefore, some craftsmen independently come up with non-standard, but quite worthy versions of the transformation of the home with the involvement of budget and affordable materials. For example, they create a cover for wild stone or paper wood. This is one of the most effective ways to inexpensively update the floors in the apartment.
Necessary materials and tools
To create an unusual coating, you need to purchase the following:
- a roll of wallpaper, wrapping paper, or a stack of brown paper bags;
- wood varnish for interior use;
- polyurethane paint;
- paint roller;
- capacity up to 10 l;
- PVA glue.
Step-by-step instruction
The attractiveness of this engineering solution is that it is suitable for application on an arbitrary basis. As a base layer, a monolith, plaster or plywood (kragis) can appear.
Process of creation:
- Remove the old coating and clean the floor to a solid substance, making sure that there are no traces of old glue on it. Remove baseboards. If they do not harmonize with the future gender, then it is better to immediately purchase new ones.
- Thoroughly close up irregularities, depressions and mounds. Roughen the floor by grinding it so that the pulp adheres optimally.
- Tear paper products into large pieces of irregular shape, mash them (in this form they will resemble a savage stone). For a concrete base, prepare an aqueous solution of glue in a volume ratio of 1: 1. A different composition is required for a wooden floor: 25% glue and 75% water.
- Spread the floor with adhesive. Sequentially put paper rags one after another. Also apply a solution on top. It is necessary to ensure that the rags neatly fit together and do not overlap each other. It should be borne in mind that during the drying process they are significantly reduced in size.
- After the glue dries (usually this takes 48–72 hours depending on the ambient temperature), the floor is varnished. Its color scheme is slightly adjustable. To preserve the natural shade of the paper, transparent varnish will do. In another case, you can pick up any tone in the range from light yellow to black. For high-quality distribution of varnish, a paint roller is used.
- To apply a finishing layer of transparent polyurethane paint (semi-gloss enamel on polymeric binders of increased hardness). This is the most expensive coating component. It is necessary to make several layers so that the surface is strong and resistant to scratches and impacts. They should be applied at intervals sufficient to allow the paint to dry. After that, grind the surface.
You can do without applying paint, although experts do not recommend this: the varnish for internal work does not have sufficient protective and wear-resistant properties, so during use the floor will be constantly damaged.
This flooring comes out original and stylish, the main thing is not to skimp on creativity. To get a genuine exclusive, it would be useful to experiment with texture, coloring, practice cutting out curly shaped elements of a bizarre shape, etc. Colored pieces of paper look spectacular, but you will have to spend some time creating them.
