I take out the trash twice less, I collect waste for a summer cottage

About 10 years ago my mother-in-law visited us. In the morning I, as usual, fried scrambled eggs for the whole family, but the shell, of course, was thrown into the bin. The mother-in-law was indignant - they say that you are the best fertilizers for the garden! You don’t need to buy anything, you save up waste in the winter - you collect crops all summer in the country at no cost! After that conversation, I practically do not throw out any food waste - I prepare household fertilizers. Here is what I collect in the first place and how I store it.

Eggshell

After making the omelettes and pies, I carefully wash the eggshell and clean it from the films - this is important, otherwise it will start to smell unpleasant. I lightly dry it, put it in a plastic bag and roll it several times with a rolling pin - this way large pieces turn into fine dust.

Keep in a tightly closed container.

In early spring, I bring under all the plants that are in the country - I dig in the soil under the apple trees and bushes of currants, mix with the soil when planting potatoes, beets and carrots, sprinkle the beds around the strawberries.

In addition to the well-known and very necessary calcium plants, the shell contains:

  • molybdenum;
  • phosphorus;
  • sulfur;
  • silicon;
  • selenium;
  • zinc.

The benefits are obvious - slowly decomposing, organic fertilizer saturates the soil with minerals. Strawberries in the first year became larger and sweeter, apples - juicier. An additional plus was that vile slugs disappeared on the site - the shell wounds their soft bodies, and they die.

Coffee grounds

My husband and I drink coffee in liters, and by the end of winter, a whole bag is going to be packed with me.

Especially you do not need to cook it - shake it out of the coffee machine, slightly dry it on a baking sheet or plate. You can not dry for a long time - it is usually not too wet. I put it in a container with holes. The container should be ventilated - coffee grounds love mold very much, therefore we store the jar in a very dry place, it can be near the battery.

Dry coffee squeeze simply pour around the beds, mix with soil or make an infusion - 5 tablespoons of dry mix per liter of water.

The ground enriches the soil with potassium, magnesium and iron, does not allow the soil to acidify in wet years.

An additional plus will be that the ants left the site - they do not like the smell of coffee.

Banana peel

I do not collect very many peels - only a son eats bananas in the house, and even then only occasionally. I simply dry the skins on a baking sheet, which I put on the battery. Then I rub and put it into the container.

I bring in as a top dressing under fruit trees and flowers, carefully digging them with the ground - otherwise the organic matter instantly becomes covered with mold.

In the first year of application, roses began to bloom in lush color and pleased with new buds until the frosts. The bees rushed to the apple trees - none of the neighbors in the autumn had such a rich harvest as mine.

This is because the skins contain sugar and potassium, which is needed for flowers and buds. In addition, the banana peel contains phosphorus, which strengthens the immune system.

If you apply this fertilizer every year, it actively repels aphids, which also helps increase yields.

Onion peel

I don’t especially store the husk - I just put it in a linen bag, rubbing it with my hands.

I make an infusion from the husk - pour a tablespoon of warm water in an amount of 2-3 liters and sprinkle strawberries, currants, plums.

In addition to foliar nutrition, this infusion protects against pests - garden ants, aphids, caterpillars.

Potato skins

I dry it like a banana peel, and I dig it into the soil with it.

Potatoes contain potassium and useful starch for plants.The soil after making such organics becomes light, nutritious, well retains moisture.

The benefits of vegetables are especially noticeable - carrots and beets do not get sick, they grow large and sugary.
