They say that a plinth for an interior is like a frame for a picture. This is not entirely true: you can spoil a picture with an unsuccessful frame, but never improve it. The baseboard is another thing: it will help to fix wall defects and even the flaws of repairmen. Of course, if you choose and mount wisely.

Skirting board evolution

As a rule, skirtings cover the joints between the floor and the wall.

The main task of the baseboard is to hide an unaesthetic “seam” between the floor and the wall. That is why the classic wooden baseboard in cross section approached a triangle: it was easier to visually align the mate between planes, which were often far from the correct geometry. Ceiling cornices have retained this form to this day.

Modern materials allow to produce skirting boards of various configurations

However, the skirting board evolved: partly because they began to build smoother, partly because the traditional baseboard prevented the furniture from being placed close to the wall. True, furniture manufacturers tried to circumvent this inconvenience by releasing cabinets and sofas with special bevels, but in this case, the side view left much to be desired, which annoyed interior designers and ordinary mortals.

At the same time in the United States, Canada and Britain, where a huge part of the population lives in individual houses, a variety of carpets have gained popularity, and the baseboards have been tasked with keeping them. And by the sum of the factors, skirting boards turned into planks, often quite wide, because in this case they protect the lower part of the wall from accidental damage and hide the lower edge of the wallpaper from the eyes.

Go to LDF

Do not be a baseboard, the room would have an unfinished view

Wooden skirting boards are good from an environmental point of view, but quite expensive and far from ideal geometry, so it is quite difficult to get a clear angle with their help. Plastic is much smoother and cheaper, but it catches the eye that kills the interior, claiming to a higher level. To the rescue comes 21st century material called LDF (Low Density Fiberboard.)

This is a modern analogue of wood, no less environmentally friendly, but lighter, more technologically advanced and easy to install. It is obtained after deep cleaning of wood fibers, which are free from resins, and then bind with pure lignin. LDF “breathes” like a tree, while maintaining perfect geometry and natural elasticity.

Skirting boards are now made from environmentally friendly and lightweight materials.

The surface of the profile is primed in the factory, and it remains to choose the right color. You can paint the skirting board in one tone with the wall to visually raise the ceiling. You can - in the color of the floor, so that the room seemed more spacious. And you can prefer a contrasting shade that emphasizes the nature of the interior. The possibilities are sea, and the final decision is entirely up to you.

Therefore, Ultrawood skirting boards can be a worthy completion of any interior, and even a “cure” for a room where something went wrong.

Skirting as a lifesaver

Skirting board will help hide all flaws, uneven joints and curved seams

Today, hand-plastered walls are in fashion, and where there is manual labor, some irregularities always appear. Here you need a fairly flexible baseboard, which can be brought to a curved surface.

In addition, many people love extraordinary spaces where the wall forms a complex line, which means that it is often necessary to dock the baseboard at the corners and beyond.

Among other pluses, wide skirting boards have one more thing - protecting the bottom of the wall from damage

And finally, mistakes happen - for example, after laying the floor covering, there are gaps between the wall and the floor that you cannot close with a standard profile.

In all these cases, the Ultrawood baseboard will come to the rescue. How exactly - it is better to see with your own eyes in our video.
