Installation of baseboards with cable channel: step-by-step work to help the home master

Repair can not be considered complete if you do not install skirting boards that aesthetically close the line of the junction of the floor and walls of the room. When choosing this decorative element of the interior, the type of finishing materials used in the room, their structure and color are taken into account. To wooden skirting boards, previously used throughout the decoration, have recently joined skirting boards made of plastic, ceramics and MDF boards. Moreover, the functionality of plastic skirting boards is significantly expanded due to the modernization of their design. Performing the installation of a skirting board with a cable channel, it is possible to solve the incidental task of masking various wires stretching across the apartment. This provides unhindered access to the telephone or network cable for repair or replacement due to the presence in the baseboard of an easily sliding decorative panel, under which all fastener elements are also reliably hidden.

Room measurement and material calculation

Before you begin installing the floor plinth, you must accurately measure the length of the walls around the perimeter, excluding the width of the interior doors. Unlike other materials, skirting boards are not purchased with a margin so as not to waste finances, thereby increasing the budget for the entire repair.

When measuring a room, close attention is paid to the number of internal and external corners. For their decoration, manufacturers produce special connecting elements that greatly simplify installation work. In addition to the corners, the necessary number of left and right plugs is calculated. Plastic dowels and screws are selected as fasteners.

Important! Before buying, draw a schematic plan of the room and mark on it all the elements of the hardware. In this case, the sales assistant will be able to provide more effective assistance in the calculation of all consumables.

If you are going to independently carry out the installation of PVC skirting boards, then prepare the minimum set of tools that requires:

roulettes;
a small grinder that can be replaced with a hacksaw for metal;
hammer drill or punch;
screwdriver;
awl;
pencil or marker.

Step-by-step installation

In general, any man can do this procedure, since this operation does not require special knowledge. Work starts from the inner corner and is carried out in the following order.

The decorative strip of the channel cable is removed from the baseboard.
An inner corner is put on the right end, after which the baseboard is applied to the place of the planned installation.
An awl is taken, with the help of which the rear wall is easily pierced and thus the locations of the fasteners are outlined.
The skirting board is removed, and in marked places they are drilled with a drill or hole punch. Dust that inevitably forms during drilling a wall is removed immediately with a vacuum cleaner.
Further, the dowels are hammered into the drilled holes, the baseboard is applied and screwed on with screws.
After that, wires are inserted into the cable, which are closed by a snap-on top plate.
The left end of the baseboard is inserted into the connector, after which they proceed with the installation of the next segment of the baseboard, which is carried out according to the algorithm described above.

When it comes to the next corner of the room, the remaining distance is measured and a piece of the plinth of the appropriate length is cut off.And when sawing the skirting board do not forget that about 5 mm will go into the corner element when inserting the end. If you forget about it, then the cut piece will be short, and therefore not suitable for installation.

Steps for fixing the skirting board in different angular situations

Important! For cutting a plastic baseboard use a grinder with a thin circle. Measure the angle of cut using a school protractor. Professionals use a special tool called a miter box, which allows you to quickly cut the skirting board at the right angle. Exact observance of the angles requires the installation of a wooden baseboard, because there are no special plastic connecting elements with which you can cover a small divergence of ends.

When calculating the number of required plinth planks, you need to build on their length (usually 2.5m). In this case, for reasons of economy, you can use the cut-off remains of the skirting board, joining them using a connecting element. Some manufacturers for their baseboards produce "rubber corners", both internal and external. Such elements are very convenient when the angle in the room is more or less than 90 degrees. When installing a modern skirting board with a cable channel (and they are usually now available with soft edges), it is advisable to press it slightly on the floor, so the soft edge will hide small surface irregularities. I personally carried out the cutting of the skirting board using a hacksaw, but in principle, this can be done using any cutting-sawing tool.

This is probably the most enjoyable part of repairing the installation of skirting boards). With a good screwdriver, everything is done accurately and quickly, it is a pleasure. Plastic skirting boards with a cable channel are the most reliable in domestic conditions, and it looks neat, what can I say. Not that the eternal wires were tangled underfoot before, especially in repair and strained).

The installation procedure for this skirting board is clear to me, but still found a few points that I did not know. namely, the features of fixing the baseboard in the corners.
