How to attach a skirting board to the floor: an overview of fasteners for clips, liquid nails and anchor plates

Plinths are made of various materials, which allows the master to choose the most suitable option for the wall covering. When choosing this finishing element, the method of its fastening is also taken into account. Plinth manufacturers offer their products with special fasteners that simplify installation work. In the manual you can always find information on how to fix the skirting board and at what installation moments it is necessary to pay special attention. In this article we will consider the existing methods of fastening.

Wooden baseboard - fasteners for liquid nails

When working with wooden skirting boards, it is necessary to stock up with an end saw, a hammer, a measuring tape, "liquid nails" and a special gun for applying them. Let's consider how to fix a wooden plinth with the help of "liquid nails".

  • They begin laying the wooden skirting board from the corner, while the edges of the adjacent elements are trimmed at an angle of 45 degrees.
  • Next, “liquid” nails are applied to the back of the decorative strip and fastened to the wall, carefully connecting the joints.
  • The baseboard is pressed with a heavy object, thereby providing the glued element with better fixation.
  • Measuring and sawing off the next segment of the plinth, make further installation.

Important! This mounting method is acceptable only in rooms where the walls and floors are perfectly even. Otherwise, it will not be possible to ensure a tight fit of the baseboard around the entire perimeter of the room.

In addition, you can fix skirting boards made of wood with parquet pins, the hats of which have miniature dimensions. The diameter of these hats does not exceed 1.5 mm, so it is almost impossible to see them from a height of human growth. With the help of a thin damper, the studs are heated in the skirting, covering small holes with putty in the color of the material.

Interesting, but how to fix a wooden plinth to the floor near the columns used by designers in modern interiors? For the decoration of rounded walls and columns, special wooden flexible skirting boards are produced, which are stored until sealed in a sealed package. Planks impregnated with special impregnation can bend, finally hardening under the influence of air. They are fixed as well as other skirtings made of wood.

Veneered baseboard - on anchor plates

A veneered baseboard made of pine or spruce wood and covered with a thin layer of valuable wood is fixed with glue or anchor plates. The latter method is more laborious, but applicable regardless of the degree of evenness of the walls. Let's take a closer look at how to do this:

  • First, marking the installation sites of the anchor plates is carried out, maintaining a distance between adjacent fasteners of 50 cm.
  • Drill holes in the designated places with a puncher.
  • Next, plastic dowels are driven into the prepared holes.
  • The anchor plates are attached to the wall with screws, while the teeth of the anchor are oriented strictly perpendicular to the plinth fibers.
  • The baseboard is fixed on these teeth.

Important! Parquet studs are not used for installing veneered skirting, as it is undesirable to damage the integrity of the upper layer (veneer).

Plastic baseboards - fasten to clips

The installation of PVC skirting boards is much simpler than the same wood products.Fastening of plastic skirting boards is carried out using special clips or using the internal strip. In addition to the trims, they additionally acquire docking, inner, outer and end corners to facilitate installation.

It is better to start laying from the door, leaving a little space for connecting a special docking corner. Kleimer clips (fasteners) are screwed to the wall using self-tapping screws. Previously, plastic dowels are placed in the drilled holes. Then, with a simple click, the outer decorative strip of the plastic baseboard is inserted. This method is called "flush mounting."

Important! Plastic products can also be fastened with glue and self-tapping screws, directly screwed into the baseboard. At the same time, special caps can be used to mask hats, the color of which is suitable for the main product.

We hope this information will help the reader to navigate the installation methods of decorative elements that allow you to hide the joint between the surfaces. If you need to carry out such work, you will know how to attach the baseboard to the floor in each particular room.

The most aesthetic and strong plinths that I set for my practice are wooden, they are attached to the screws and will stand until the next repair. I like that mounting this skirting board is very easy. I tried to attach the skirting board to glue or liquid nails, but over time, the glue loosens and peels off anyway, and the skirting board on the screws is durable and reliable.

Still, a wooden plinth is easier to fix, and it lasts longer than a veneer plinth. He put wooden in the apartment last year, now the baseboard is in excellent condition. Clutches with plastic are even simpler and cheaper, but I associate this material exclusively with non-residential premises or offices.
