Mastic for parquet - why and how to rub the parquet with special compounds?
Parquet - a coating that is extremely popular due to its undeniable environmental friendliness and genuine beauty. But without proper care, parquet floors quickly lose all their charm. An indispensable tool in maintaining their impeccable appearance is mastic for parquet.
Why do they rub parquet?
The rubbing gives the coating a luxurious look - a shiny frequent surface underfoot touches and pleases the eye; and the sunlight reflected from the glossy floor involuntarily makes you smile. Mastic for rubbing parquet performs both aesthetic and protective functions. In addition to the ability to emphasize the beneficial texture of wood, it protects the tree from natural wear, moisture and all kinds of pollution.
Mastic classification and application features
These funds are classified by scope and conditions of use, as well as by technical characteristics. Two large groups of parquet mastics are distinguished: the first is intended for laying the parquet floor, the second - to extend the life of the coating.
The mastic used in the installation of panel or typeset parquet is an adhesive, which, in turn, can be hot or cold. Let us dwell in more detail on the second - protective-ennobling group. Depending on the composition, mastics for flooring are divided into:
- water emulsion;
- water soluble;
- turpentine (anhydrous);
- wax.
There are also mastics designed exclusively for processing the side walls of the dies and the seams between them.
Emulsion mastic
This tool is universal, as it is suitable for almost all tree species. Its composition contains active substances that flawlessly clean the surface.
When buying mastic, we recommend that you still pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions - there, as a rule, it is indicated with what kind of parquet it is better to "combine" it.
Water soluble mastic
It, which is quite obvious, is bred in water. A water-soluble composition is used for rubbing a strong and reliable oak flooring - the most resistant to moisture representative of the "parquet family". No, no, this does not mean at all that it is impossible to apply this mastic to other tree species! It is only necessary to make the solution thicker - by reducing the amount of added water.
It is not recommended to rub beech and birch parquet with water-soluble mastic - due to their extraordinary sensitivity to moisture.
Turpentine (anhydrous) mastic
It appears to the buyer in a ready-made form - water for its dilution is not required. Ideal for parquet floors made of wood, prone to absorb moisture - already mentioned above beech and birch species.
Wax mastic
Contains a waxy substance, solvent and necessary additives. Wax mastic for parquet is able to qualitatively decorate pine, birch, beech, maple, etc. parquet.
If the parquet is installed on a bituminous adhesive, wax mastic with turpentine is strictly prohibited!
The technology of applying the composition
The quality of applying water-soluble mastic depends on whether it is mixed well. As a tool, you should choose a medium hard brush. The applied composition is left on the surface until dry.Then (4-5 hours will be enough) with a soft rag remove the rest of the mastic and dry the floors for another 2 hours. After this time period, apply another layer of mastic. Turpentine composition is also applied in two stages.
Also, we draw your attention to the fact that the use of any type of mastic requires previously dust-free floors.
Wax mastic is applied to the surface with a flat brush. Try to level this composition as efficiently as possible - because the degree of wear resistance of the coating depends on it. Sometimes they use special machines to make things move faster:
Many modern compounds are endowed with excellent bactericidal properties - this is useful and important. Mastic for flooring will quickly and efficiently restore key aesthetic indicators of flooring.
