Can I lay laminate flooring in the bathroom

Laminate is one of the most popular and versatile finishing materials. Having started repairs, many are wondering if it is possible to lay a laminate in the bathroom.

Can I lay a laminate in the bathroom

Until recently, it was believed that the laminate is not suitable for use in rooms with high humidity. At present, fundamentally new types of laminate with special characteristics that can be used in bathrooms have been developed.

In some collections of laminate flooring, waterproofing of the floor is achieved due to the sealing rubber strip along the longitudinal side of the panel and additional sealing of the cross section with a special plastic sealant

To prevent the accumulation of water in the joints and locks of the lamella and the ingress of moisture, a special moisture-resistant putty is used.

In the hygiene room, you can put floor material with the following properties:

  • moisture resistant. It is made on the basis of the HDF plate, which is distinguished by a special density. The plate is impregnated with wax, antibacterial composition. Such a laminate easily tolerates high humidity, but is not intended for frequent and prolonged wetting. If water gets directly, the material can “hold out” for no more than 6 hours. This type of laminate is recommended for use in bathrooms with a good ventilation system, in which the probability of a large amount of liquid getting on the floor surface is minimized;
  • water resistant. The basis of the material is a PVC plate, coated on top with a special water-repellent composition. Impregnation of strips with hot wax allows for tightness of the coating. Laminate is not afraid of flooding, damage. Waterproof material can cover not only floors, but also walls, ceilings.

When buying a laminate, it is better to check the type of impregnation of the panel locks yourself - try scraping the wax with your fingernail (if the impregnation is of high quality, you will not be able to do this)

The positive characteristics of the laminate include:

  • durability;
  • resistance to external influences;
  • water resistance (or moisture resistance);
  • wide assortment range (various colors, textures);
  • aesthetic appeal;
  • ease of installation;
  • comfort in everyday life (pleasant sensations when touching the sole of the feet with the coating);
  • ease of care.

In an emergency, several panels can be easily removed to speed up drying.

Thus, the opinion that the laminate is not used in the repair of rooms with high humidity is wrong. Properly selected coating can be used not only for floors, but also for walls and ceilings.
