Is it really possible to lay tiles on the tiles in the bathroom?
My question is about the floor device in the bathroom. The fact is that I have tiles in the bathroom on the floor, but it does not combine with the new shower and furniture. I bought these plumbing attributes with a focus on the design of the walls (they are in very good condition). But the floor doesn’t fit well, I don’t even know where the old owners looked. In a word, something needs to be done with the floors in the bathroom. I called the master, and he said that on top of this tile you can put a new one, it will be faster and cheaper. Of course, I was delighted, but I read the forums on the Internet, and there many do not recommend laying tiles on tiles. I decided to ask the experts. What tell me, is it possible in my situation to make a floor of such a design?
Your fears are fully justified. Let's say right away: it is not recommended to lay a new tile on the old one for the reason that if the deformation of individual elements is determined with the naked eye, this may also indicate that the glue, which previously laid the coating, also cracked. All these features may ultimately cause the new tile to be laid on top of the old one to be damaged.
That is, simply put, if the old tile in your bathroom has critical defects, then it must definitely be dismantled.
When there is no other way?
- If the tiled surface has lost its aesthetic appearance: scuffs are visible on it, a grid of small cracks is visible, the pattern burned out.
- If, for financial reasons, it is not possible to carry out dismantling, which, as a rule, is very laborious and requires significant time costs. And after the old tile is removed, you will need to make tremendous efforts to put the foundation in order.
- If it is not possible to dismantle the old tiles due to the installation of plumbing products. Usually the dismantling of the old tile cover can cause damage to the key and expensive attributes of the bathroom: toilet bowl, washbasin, bathtub, etc.
Based on the aforementioned circumstances, you yourself must decide whether it is worth laying a new one from the same material on the old tile coating. But, judging by the fact that the master approved a similar version of the device of floors, this option suits you.
