Insulated linoleum - what is good and how to choose the best option?

Linoleum remains one of the most popular flooring for many years. There are many reasons for this: it is hygienic, has good performance, has a low cost and ease of installation. There are different types of this coating, one of them is warm linoleum.

On sale there is a floor covering of different types. For example, depending on the field of application, commercial, semi-commercial and household linoleum are distinguished. Depending on the binder used in the manufacture, the following types are distinguished: natural, polyvinyl chloride, alkyd (glyphthalic), rubber linoleum (relin), colloxylin linoleum. In their structure, these types of linoleum can be baseless or have a fabric, foam or felt (heat-insulating) base.

The advantages of insulated linoleum

The use of warm linoleum is relevant when it is necessary to insulate the floors in the room at no particular cost. Especially often, such a coating is laid on a concrete base, which is quite cold in itself, but also on a wooden surface. Due to the fact that these types of linoleum have a significant thickness, their use is justified in cases where the base is not quite perfect, there are cracks, slight differences in height, and there is no time or opportunity to eliminate them.

Foamed linoleum

The insulated foamed linoleum has a complex structure. The top layer, which is decorative, can be any color. The variety of textures and drawings is also impressive: from avant-garde to traditional.

The pattern is created over the entire thickness of the layer, which helps to preserve the aesthetic appearance of the coating for a long time.

Below is the base of foam rubber, which has excellent heat-insulating and sound-absorbing properties. Although its thickness is small (1.5-3 mm), but this does not detract from its effectiveness. Sometimes, for added rigidity, another layer of fiberglass is added. A wear-resistant transparent film is applied on top of all layers, which protects linoleum from mechanical damage and prevents the penetration of contaminants into its structure.

This flooring will please with practicality: it is easy to clean, easy to clean and has sufficient strength.

Warm linoleum

Linoleum on a warm base is also noteworthy, which is a film glued to a base of jute or felt. This coating is resilient, soft, nice to walk on. It fits easily and quickly, because it does not require laborious gluing over the entire surface of the floor.

There are also disadvantages. The top layer of such linoleum does not differ in high strength, therefore it is easily damaged, therefore, it requires a careful attitude. In areas with high traffic, the coating will soon lose its attractiveness. In addition, it can not be used in rooms with high humidity, since under the influence of water the base is destroyed, especially for natural materials. But in the bedroom, in the children's room, such coverage will be very appropriate.

How to choose the right linoleum?

When choosing linoleum on an insulated basis, it is necessary to adhere to both general recommendations and tips relating directly to this type of flooring:

  • the pattern, color, texture of the flooring should correspond to the chosen style of the interior, in harmony with other details and finishing materials;
  • it is important to pay attention to the linoleum width and try to choose an option in which there will be fewer joints;
  • when choosing a flooring in each case, it is important to take into account the class of its wear resistance, the durability of the repair depends on this;
  • It will not be superfluous to require a certificate of product quality.

      What kind of linoleum we didn’t have to buy, but lately we have been constantly taking only insulated. We choose more on a foam basis, it seems to me more durable. From my own experience I will say that it is best to choose closer to the width of the room. Yes, it will be more expensive. But, firstly, it’s quite easy to lay it, you don’t have to refine yourself with cutting-trimming. Secondly, there is no need to select a pattern and the canvas will be seamless. Thirdly, save on welding consumables or welding foreman. I see only solid advantages in this. And leaving is generally without problems, because the seams still interfere, no matter how well they were made.

      We bought warm linoleum in the country house. Yes, it is inexpensive and different from ordinary linoleum. But he still does not give special floor insulation. But for its price it gives good insulation. The article correctly noted that in different rooms you need to select the drawings and textures of linoleum that combine with each other.
