Is it worth buying a laminate with an antistatic coating, its pros and cons

The phenomenon of static electricity causes a number of inconveniences. You can get a slight electric shock when in contact with a metal surface or when moving on a carpet. Household appliances also suffer from an electric discharge. It may fail. To solve the problem of electrification of floors, you can use a laminate with an antistatic coating.

What is the difference between a conventional laminate with an antistatic coating?

Electric charge accumulates less on a laminated surface than on a carpet. Due to this, the frequency of the phenomenon of static electricity is reduced. But when using floor materials with a low level of electrical conductivity, charged particles still accumulate on their surface.

But if you use a laminate with an antistatic effect, these inconveniences can be avoided. Thanks to the use of special additives, the electrical conductivity of the panels increases. In this case, the voltage of the electric charge does not exceed 2 kW, which is almost not felt when in contact with an electrified surface.

Laminate flooring, due to its structure, is considered functional and practical.

Advantages and disadvantages

The benefits of an antistatic laminate include the following:

  • Increased electrical conductivity. Minimizes the level of electrification of the floor and objects that come into contact with it. Therefore, dust and dirt do not accumulate on it so quickly.
  • The life span of household appliances is extended and there is no interference with its operation.
  • Environmental friendliness. The material is treated with antiallergenic and antibacterial components. Therefore, mold does not multiply on it and pathogens do not accumulate.

But when choosing a material, it is also worth considering its shortcomings. These include:

  • Laminate with increased wear resistance is more expensive. The higher its class, the higher the price.
  • The antistatic layer is destroyed by prolonged contact with water, chlorine or acids.

Laminate will last longer and retain its original appearance, subject to some recommendations:

  • Wipe the spilled water immediately;
  • during cleaning use only detergents specially designed for this type.

Is it obligatory to buy it

If wet cleaning is rarely done, static electricity builds up on the laminate. Then he quickly attracts dust and dirt.

But frequent cleaning using water destroys the structure of the material. Panels can swell and warp if moisture penetrates through their joints. To protect the coating, it is recommended to use special products in the form of aerosols or liquids with an antistatic effect. They do not leave streaks and impregnate the surface, protecting them from moisture and dust.

But this method of protection is only suitable for use at home and in the presence of free time. After all, you will have to use an antistatic agent regularly. And in office or industrial premises with a large quadrature, this will be problematic.

Laminate is not only a finishing coating, but also a decorative element of the interior

If you want to save money, you can periodically treat a conventional laminate with antistatic agents. But this occupation is troublesome and there is not always extra time for this. Therefore, in order to avoid the problem of an electrified floor, it is easier to immediately get a laminate with an antistatic layer.
