What floor tiles to make in the hallway: design options and design ideas
The entrance hall is the face of the house, because it is in this room that a person gets in the first place. And the well-known proverb says that the first impression is the most correct. It turns out that it is necessary to make every effort to make the room look beautiful. Based on the considerations that the main dust-mud wave is precisely in the hallway, it is important to remember not only aesthetic parameters, but also convenience. One of the most practical materials is floor tiles, and for the hallway it is an excellent option, because people appreciate the conservatism, solidity, as well as the convenience of cleaning and durability.
What to look for when buying?
What are the characteristics of the hallway? Of course, people come from the street in wet, dirty shoes, for this reason the flooring must be resistant to abrasive substances and moisture. The surface of the tile will have to be washed repeatedly, and the fact that someone will drop a heavy object on the floor cannot be ruled out.
Tile for the hallway should be selected taking into account the following parameters:
- water resistance is an extremely important property. In fact, the tile itself has a low level of moisture absorption, but a large-sized tile only strengthens this indicator, becoming the best option if you need to clad the floor in the hallway;
- degree of slip - it is undesirable to lay glossy tiles in the hallway, because the floor often comes in contact with dirt, water;
- wear resistance - undoubtedly, it should be high: 3-5 class;
- appearance - here you need to remember the harmony of color and texture with the overall composition of the room.
Ceramics, porcelain stoneware and Korean "gold"
It should be noted that at the present time there are many interesting solutions with which you can create the most practical and at the same time beautiful floor.
Ceramic tiles are made of baked clay. This tile has good resistance to wear, and also has an excellent color gamut and decorative features: a tile with various inserts, borders, patterns. If we talk about the surface, it can be embossed or smooth, the first option is the best - less glide. But this tile also has a drawback, if a heavy object is accidentally dropped on the floor, it will either crack or break. It is also necessary to say that the tiled floor is a cold floor, on which mats must be laid.
Quartz vinyl tile is also an acceptable option. It is made from quartz sand with the addition of plasticizers, vinyl, pigments, stabilizers. But still, quartz is the main component, so the tile is considered natural and harmless. But thanks to vinyl, this flooring is characterized by shock resistance, additional flexibility, wear resistance.
If we talk about the color scheme, everything is also in order here: basically, these are natural shades that are suitable for the interior of any style.
Porcelain tile is very durable, made using technology similar to porcelain: two different types of clay are mixed, crumbs of granite, quartz or feldspar are added there. Moreover, the raw material is processed under the influence of high temperatures and pressure.
Note. Colorful coating is applied to the entire thickness of the tile. This is a significant difference from ceramics, because there only the front surface is painted.
Amazing tile native to South Korea today is becoming increasingly known among the inhabitants of our country. This is a “golden” tile, but it has nothing to do with imitation of precious metal. It received a similar name due to its high performance properties.
“Golden” tile is a multilayer structure consisting of natural stone (ground) and polymers. The bottom layer is made of compacted PVC, and above it are stone granules mixed with natural resin. It is interesting that the stones are crushed according to a specific technology, acquiring a special shape: triangular, round, elongated. But the central layer consists of fiberglass, followed by a film layer - and a picture is printed on it.
Important. So that the pattern does not fade when exposed to ultraviolet rays, it is reliably protected by two transparent layers.
Design Examples
Good parameters of strength, wear resistance, of course, are important indicators, but we should not forget about the aesthetic side of the hallway design. In terms of design with tiles, you can experiment using interesting combinations. For example, to expand the space, large-format, smooth and light tiles should be used, because the tile of dark tones will greatly limit the already small entrance hall.
Warm colors also have a diminishing effect, but they give the room coziness. A tile of cold tones, on the contrary, increases the volume. It should be noted that it is desirable to avoid black color, because then various scratches, scuffs and similar defects will be visible, and this looks win-win.
The main design technique is a game with colors and shades. With their competent combination, you can create an individual space that brings peace as soon as a person crosses the threshold of his home. In addition, a light tone gives the room a touch of elegance, rigor, the main thing is that the tile fits into the concrete interior.
Visually expand the space using diagonal styling, as well as by combining various materials. For example, a combination of ceramic tiles with parquet, linoleum. Thus, the room is divided into two functional zones: shoes are placed in the working part, and guests are welcomed in the front door.
Important: it is desirable that the strongest tile with increased resistance to damage be used in the working area.
In the hallway you can use many options, both tiles and design ideas, most importantly, remember the functional purpose, not forgetting the beauty.
