Bath mats - the problems of choosing the “motley” assortment in the world
Usually they try to lay the floors in the bathroom with tiles - this is both beautiful and functional, and any pollution to her does not matter. The only “but”: it is easy to slip on a bare tile and, even showing all the wonders of balancing, collapse onto the same hard surface. Therefore, for the sake of its own safety, it will not hurt to “dilute” all this laconic beauty with something soft and non-slip. Best of all, a small rug laid at the foot of the bathtub or shower. Moreover, there will be no problems with the choice of this accessory - the modern range of rugs is huge.
More than just a carpet ...
You would think that you can put any rug that caught your eye in the shopping center on the floor in the bathroom and begin to enjoy the surface thus warmed. And no! A carpet suitable for a living room is not a priori suitable for a bathroom, as it does not have the necessary moisture resistance. Without this property, any most beautiful carpet, after a month of living in the damp conditions of the bathroom, will become like a floor rag. And further. The bath mat, unlike traditional carpets, should be small so that it can be easily washed (even in a washing machine) and then hung out to dry.
Synthetics or naturalness: what to prefer?
Bath mats can be made from both synthetic and natural materials. And to say what is better for the conditions of the bathroom is unrealistic. Synthetic mats are guaranteed moisture resistance, wear resistance, ease of care, low cost. Natural products are usually more pleasant to the touch, environmentally friendly and indispensable for creating eco-style. However, to be honest, synthetic mats are still the most popular. Let's start with them.
The most common carpet synthetics is acrylic. Rugs from it are incredibly soft and pleasant to the touch, can be made in a wide variety of colors. Manufacturers often try to attract customers with additional “utilities” and apply an antibacterial coating to the surface of acrylic rugs. This is really a very successful invention, as it prevents the growth of bacteria, ticks and fungi on the rug.
A polypropylene mat will also be a good choice. These products are not as popular as acrylic with their incredible number of colors. It is difficult to paint polypropylene with all the colors of the rainbow, but the textured metamorphoses of this material are endless!
Recently, a new material for making rugs has appeared - dissected polyester or microfiber. Its main advantage is the ability to absorb moisture very quickly, and then instantly dry. Microfiber is very soft and has an antibacterial property. Therefore, walking on such a rug, you can be sure that the legs remained perfectly clean, almost disinfected!
PVC mats - an inexpensive option, which is often supplied with photo printing for beauty. PVC sheets are sold in rolls, which can then be cut into rugs of the desired size. They do not absorb water, but do not slip, in addition, it is very easy to care for them - just wipe with a damp cloth. And it is advisable to dry such rugs every time after taking water procedures.
Rubber mats are also inexpensive, but can be very interesting for design. Rubber is a malleable material, so mats from it can be of any color and texture. Often they are made on suction cups and securely fixed to the floor.
Here is such a variety of synthetic rugs! However, there are people who categorically do not like the prospect of stepping on them with bare feet. They prefer everything natural. Although, when it comes to bath mats, eco-style adherents have little choice.
You can buy a bath mat made of cotton - a soft, very pleasant material. Typically, these rugs are painted in "natural" colors: white, beige, gray, brown. Depending on the length of the pile, cotton mats can be perceived in completely different ways. Short pile gives the product weightlessness, lightness. The long pile in which the foot is drowning, on the contrary, looks like a heavy layer of fur.
A natural rug can be made of ... wood. Of course, this will not be a rug in the traditional sense of the word; rather, it is a mat of thin wooden slats. Basically, these products are made of rattan - warm wood of tropical liana. There are mats on the market that are woven from bamboo - an amazing material that does not repel moisture, but absorbs it. And then it quickly evaporates! Bamboo mats are very durable and are one of the most wear-resistant bath mats.
A few words about design
The material the rug is made of is not everything. For the appearance of the bathroom, the design of this product is more important.
Most often, the rug is chosen in the same color scheme with tiled lining of the room. Then it merges with the general style, and it always looks harmonious.
However, the option “from the opposite” may turn out to be no less interesting, when the color of the rug and the room is polar different. So the gloomy bathroom in dark colors is completely transformed, thanks to the rug in bright red colors.
As for the picture, in favor of nature motifs (plants, animals) and simple geometric patterns. The “marine” theme remains popular: shells, starfish, algae, fish and other marine inhabitants.
Children's rugs are a separate issue. They are always bright with clear images of your favorite cartoon characters or animals. Sometimes it may not even be an image, but a complete "dramatization". For example, a rug in the form of a funny lizard or a fun sea fish.
In fact, the range of rugs is so large that it is difficult to dwell on one thing. Yes, and why limit yourself? Buy several diverse rugs - then every morning your bathroom will meet you with a new mood!
