How to arrange concrete floors in the workshop so that they are super durable. I heard that there are special compounds that specifically strengthen such a surface. What kind of materials, and in general, what experts think about this. Maybe this is another marketing ploy? I don’t feel like wasting money.

You are probably interested in a concrete coating, characterized by a hardened top layer. This new technology involves applying a special dry mixture to freshly poured concrete. Such a mixture is called a hardener, which is embedded (rubbed) into the hardened surface. What will be the result? Concrete surface acquires the following qualities:

  • Increased hardness and wear resistance of the surface. And this happens, first of all, due to saturation of the surface of the concrete screed with highly solid aggregates, of which the hardener consists to a greater extent. In addition, there is a decrease in water-cement ratio in the surface layer of concrete. This is achieved due to the fact that the cement available in the hardener is added to the final layer of the concrete screed without adding water.
  • Thanks to the grouting process characteristic of this technology, surface compaction and porosity reduction occur. That is, strength increases. We recommend that you use a high-quality sealant for concrete floors in your work, since special modifying chemically active additives are necessarily included in its component composition. They maximally increase the impermeability of the final coating, as well as its chemical resistance.

  • In the process of grouting the hardener, the interface between the base and the coating is eroded, which means that the risk of delamination is significantly reduced.
  • It is very important that the hardened concrete coating allows excess moisture to evaporate, that is, it remains vapor permeable.
  • The base and the hardened coating do not have differences among themselves in all physicomechanical parameters, because the hardener is close to concrete in composition. Such characteristics virtually eliminate the possibility of cracking and provide the highest strength.
