What coating to choose for the concrete floor in the workshop

Hello!

What coating do you recommend covering the concrete floor in a car service, so that it is smooth and glossy, protected from chemical and mechanical influences?

Thank.

Hello, Vladimir.

There are two options to make the floor in a car workshop more resistant to various destructive factors:

  • complete surface renewal with a self-leveling mixture;
  • impregnation of a concrete base with special polymer compositions.

Consider the first option. In your case, any bulk floor is suitable, the basis of which is epoxy resins and polyurethane compositions. Such a coating perfectly copes with shock and mechanical loads, has a high resistance to abrasives, is not damaged and does not interact with chemical and fuels and lubricants.

Besides the fact that a smooth surface without joints is much less contaminated, the floor can be washed with high-pressure apparatuses. It is also important that, unlike a concrete surface, when a metal object is hit on the self-leveling floor, no spark is cut out, which is important in a room with flammable substances.

It remains to add that the leading manufacturers of epoxy and self-leveling mixtures give a 20-year warranty on the floor. As an example, we can cite several of the most popular coatings, about which there are many positive reviews on the Internet. These are epoxy floors: Epoxytec, Epolast, Dekolta, NEPOKS, and others. Polyurethane mixtures can be distinguished POLITEK, Polymerstone-2, Remmers, floor.expertexpro.com/en/ and others.

As for the second option, the impregnation with polymer toppings, although it does not give such an effect as self-leveling compounds, with its help you can also create reliable protection of the concrete base from mechanical and chemical factors. Using mixtures such as Elacor, Protexil, Multiprotect, Elastex, etc., you will receive a significant improvement in the operational and physical and technical characteristics of the existing floor. Penetrating concrete to a depth of 2-3 mm, polymer impregnations strengthen its structure, make it smoother and immune to shocks and aggressive substances. And although the guaranteed service life of such toppings is 2 times less than that of bulk floors, they have one indisputable advantage - a very affordable cost.

As you can see, the choice of materials for arranging the floor in the workshop is quite wide. It all depends on how much you are willing to pay for additional convenience and comfort.
