Why did the carpet peel off when laying on double-sided tape?

I wonder why the carpet laid last year exfoliated and blistered in many places? We are completing a summer cottage. The second floor was completely finished last fall, and they decided to make the final cover from the carpet, which was put on double-sided tape. When buying materials, we were assured that this is the most common and very reliable way to fix it? It seems that they did everything right: first they put tape on the perimeter of the rooms, and then small strips along the entire surface of the wooden base.

Hello! Judging by your story, you did everything right. Most likely, you cut the carpet with a margin (5 cm on both sides), and laid it correctly after removing the protective film from the previously arranged adhesive tape. In this part of the technology violation we do not see. By the way: the consumption of adhesive tape is calculated by an absolutely simple algorithm: for 8 square meters. m of floor surface requires 1 standard roll of adhesive material. The problem may be different: in the operational characteristics of the tape itself.

Important! Adhesive tape is subject to deformation due to temperature changes and high humidity.

Since you say that we are talking about a summer cottage, we dare to assume that you do not live there all year round. This means that heating does not always work there and periodically there is increased humidity. These circumstances are the answer to the question of what happened to your coverage.

How to fix the situation?

The method of laying carpet on the slats
The method of laying carpet on the slats

You can say that your carpet is almost new, so it must be “saved”. Remove the cover completely. In the most careful way, remove the tape from the base of the floor and from the wrong side of the carpet. And then ... invite a specialist. Because only a professional can correctly implement in practice the method of laying floor material of this type. This method is called "stretching." It was invented by the British and consists of the following:

  • special rails are fastened along the walls, on which nails are pre-packed in 2 rows at an angle of 450;
  • using a special tool, the carpet is stretched;
  • the material is fixed on the slats.

Important! Under the carpet you will need to put a substrate, which will give additional softness to the coating.

That is, in this way, in our opinion, you can correct the situation, and the carpet will delight you with beauty and comfort for many years.
