Can Knauf floors be painted?

Can Knauf floors be painted to save money and reduce repair time? Or should they be covered with a board or any other floor covering?

Hello Irina!

Knauf-superfloor is a prefabricated gypsum board construction mounted on the so-called dry screed. The advantages of the floor system, which is also called the "floating floor", lies precisely in the fact that it allows you to install without resorting to concreting. At the same time, there is no need for a technological break for the drying of the previously prepared screed, and flooring can be carried out even in rooms with a complete repair. The result is a smooth and even base on which it is allowed to lay any type of floor coverings - laminate, tile, parquet board, linoleum, etc.

Painting Knauf floor eliminates a good half of the advantages that he possesses, and not only reduce the repair time, but also make it longer. In addition, the desire to save a certain amount is a rather illusory chance. We will try to argue this statement in order to dissuade you from this venture.

Knauf-superfloor gypsum boards can, of course, be painted. But just before picking up a brush or a roller with paint, you have to sweat a lot. So, first you need to plaster the surface, and then carefully grind it and soak it several times with a deep penetration primer. It is also important that only sufficiently expensive polymer paints can provide sufficient wear resistance to the coating. With the cost of plaster, primer and other materials and tools that will be needed for high-quality surface preparation and painting, you will receive an amount slightly less than that which you have to give for a good linoleum. As you can see, Knauf-floor can be painted, but the rationality of this venture raises great doubts.
