Why the construction pencil is oval: interesting facts
Unlike ordinary and drawing round and multifaceted pencils, construction (carpentry) flattened. The same goes for the stylus. Most people do not even know why carpentry pencil is oval, although they suspect that this shape is due to completely pragmatic reasons, and not the whim of the manufacturer.
The tool is used to image schemes and marking various materials used in the repair. It draws well on metal and glass, plastic and wood, brick and concrete, wallpaper with a different base, etc.
A construction pencil, like its stylus, has an oval shape, which provides several advantages in the context of construction and repair work.
The main advantages:
- The oval shape of the product does not allow it to slide off work surfaces.
- Flattened stylus allows you to put labels of two types: thick (wide side of the rod) and thin (narrow).
- Two-color models give you as many as four types of layout.
- The stylus is stronger and more reliable than the cores of ordinary or drawing pencils.
Joiner models are usually painted in bright colors so that they can be clearly seen on a cluttered work surface or in a tool bag.
If it’s not entirely clear why construction pencils are needed, you should take a regular one and try to make markings on a rough concrete surface, and then compare the noticeability of the inscriptions and the number of sharpenings of the stylus. Graphite of high-quality building models is much more durable and wear-resistant and less often needs sharpening.
If you prefer automatic pencils, it is highly recommended to purchase original cores from the manufacturer. Cheaper analogues often tolerate high humidity worse, break faster, grind and crumble.
