Learning to make a “warm baseboard” or how to arrange a European heating system?

It has long been thrown in the summer when when individual heating was meant only a bulky system with water as a coolant. The technical process has contributed to the implementation of innovative developments in many industries. Today, the modern market offers a huge selection of devices and systems aimed at the most efficient solution of tasks related to home improvement. In particular, the heating system may have several variations. Among the latest fashion trends in terms of home heating, you can safely call a warm baseboard. This technology has come to us relatively recently from Europe, where it has been successfully used for about two decades.

Simply put, a warm baseboard means a heating device 6 cm wide and about 14-16 cm high from the floor. It is mounted on the walls around the entire perimeter of the room at the base of the baseboard. The design of the warm skirting board includes a heat exchange heating module, which consists of 2 copper pipes. Lamellas are mounted on these pipes. The entire system is hidden in an external collapsible aluminum box. Depending on the method of heating the module, the plinth heating system can be water or electric.

The principle of operation of such a heating system

The functioning of the “warm skirting” system is based on the effect of “sticking” of warm air to the walls of the room. In this case, the air flow slowly rises along the wall surfaces, giving them its heat. Outside, a heat shield forms on the walls and windows, which prevents the outflow of heat from the room.

Note! Already from heated walls, thermal energy is emitted, transmitted to other objects and surfaces: furniture, floor, ceiling. And the air in the process is warmed up again from objects.

As a result, the uniform distribution of heat along the height and perimeter of the room and the absence of active convection provide an extremely comfortable microclimate for humans. In order to choose and then install a warm plinth with your own hands, you need to know the functional features of both water and electric variations.

Option # 1 - Electrical System

Preliminary work is done on the preparation of conclusions for the subsequent connection of the system. An electric warm baseboard is usually mounted in two stages:

First step. An electric cable is laid from the power source to the connection points of the servos and thermostats. The technical methods of performing these works must be thought out and calculated during the initial design. When laying communications, special attention must be paid to the correct piping and connection of engineering equipment. It is necessary to clearly follow all the recommendations and instructions of the system manufacturers, since after the cement screed is filled and the finishing work is done, it will be physically impossible to fix the defects. A 220 V power cable is laid to the connection points of thermostats and electric heaters.
Second phase. After all the finishing work of the floor and walls, as well as the installation of all structural elements of the warm skirting board are completed, the following measures are taken: insulation resistance measurements; power supply; setting thermostats.

Option # 2 - Water System

First of all, a plastic pipeline is laid from the collector to the places of the baseboard.At the second stage, the following works are performed:

installation of elements of the heating system;
connection of heating modules to pre-prepared conclusions;
crimping;
contour balancing;
debugging automation;
commissioning activities.

Important! During installation of the “water warm baseboard” system, the heating modules are joined together by crimping nuts, which are designed specifically for copper pipes or copper soldering. The copper pipe itself is characterized by an external diameter of 13 mm and an internal diameter of 11 mm.

I didn’t even know that such technologies already exist for heating an apartment. Simple, convenient, and most importantly warm! We plan to make repairs in the children's room this year. It is imperative to give a hint to her husband so that he finds out more about the warm baseboard. In the first months of autumn in our apartment is rather damp and uncomfortable, I think such a baseboard will help solve this problem.

I really didn’t think that it was so easy to get heat, especially needed during the off-season, when it’s cold outside and the batteries have not been connected yet. Of course, in Europe, we have long mastered such a method as a warm skirting board, with us it is only gaining strength, but many of my friends have already exchanged warm floors for such skirting boards and are very pleased. Since the air is not dry, it heats evenly.
