Save yourself from the heat correctly: where is it better to hang an air conditioner in an apartment

After buying an air conditioner, everyone begins to think where to hang it. We have to take into account many nuances in order to correctly place the device in the apartment and achieve maximum efficiency.

Where and how to place air conditioning?

Bedroom

There are several general rules for installing this unit. They must be observed in any case, regardless of the number of rooms in the living room and other factors:

  • Air from the air conditioner should not be directed directly at people. The flow temperature is 8–15 ° C lower than the average for the room. If a person is exposed to such air for at least 10 minutes, then he will certainly feel bad. Therefore, the recommended installation height of the indoor unit is not lower than 2.5 m from the floor level.
  • At a distance of 3 m from the device sofas, beds and other places of rest should not be located. In this area, the air temperature is too low for a comfortable stay.
  • At least 10 cm of space must be left between the unit and the ceiling. If you ignore the rule, this will lead to a reflection of the air flow and significantly reduce the efficiency of the device.
  • The air conditioner is installed so that the air from it is directed to a place where people rarely go. For example, in the bedroom, the device should always face the opposite of the bed. In the living room, they try to direct the air flow between the sofas and armchairs, and not directly at them.
  • The appliance should not be placed above a cabinet or chest of drawers. This option is only allowed if the distance from the indoor unit to the “top” of the furniture is at least 80–90 cm. Otherwise, each time the air conditioner is turned on, it will blow off dust, which always accumulates at the top.
  • The shorter the freon path between the indoor and outdoor units of the air conditioner, the better. The cost and complexity of installation, damage to the interior, as well as the efficiency of the air conditioner, directly depend on this.
  • In order not to spoil the interior of the room, the device is hung whenever possible opposite the front door. So it is the least striking. But between beauty and practicality you should always choose the latter.

In addition to the general rules, there are specific recommendations for different types of residential premises.

The indoor unit should be as far away as possible from household appliances that emit heat.

Studio apartment

Studio apartment

For optimal operation of the air conditioning system in a studio apartment you need 2 indoor units. This problem can be solved:

  • separate split systems for the kitchen and the room (the disadvantage is 2 external units on the facade);
  • multi-split with one external unit and two internal (less efficient option);
  • low-pressure channel air conditioning (disadvantage - kitchen smells during cooking are felt in all rooms of the apartment).

If the budget is limited, then you can get by with one indoor unit. It, contrary to a common misconception, should not be placed in the hallway, but in the room, directly above the doorway. About 30% of the airflow will be reflected from the wall opposite and returned to the corridor, as well as into the kitchen.

An alternative is to install the air conditioner not over the door, but opposite it. Then 60–70% of the air will enter the corridor and other rooms. This method is suitable for apartments in which the room is the coolest place.

Suitable air conditioning for a studio apartment is 2–2.5 kW. If the room area is less than 15 m2then 2 kW is enough. Higher power will not particularly affect the efficiency of the device, but it will be much more noisy.

The air conditioner cannot be connected to the same outlet at the same time as other powerful appliances.

Air conditioning in the studio

In the studio, choosing a wall for air conditioning is not so important. In any case, air will flow to all parts of the apartment. It is necessary to be guided by the general rules of installation, to consider an arrangement of sofas and beds.

The optimal air conditioning power for the studio is 2.5–3 kW. A more powerful device will be appropriate only if the area of the apartment is more than 30 m2.

Two-roomed flat

Air-conditioned bedroom

For rooms with two living rooms, the same recommendations apply as for "odnushki". But there are a few specific nuances. So, for a two-room apartment, the following devices are suitable:

  • separate split systems for the living room and kitchen;
  • multi-split with 2-3 indoor units (for the living room, kitchen and optional bedroom);
  • channel air conditioning (at least medium pressure).

In the usual "Khrushchev" you can get by with one air conditioner, if you place it in the hall above the doorway. The bedroom in these apartments is usually not more than 10–11 m2, therefore, for heating and cooling, a device with a power of 4–4.5 kW is enough.

Three room flat

Family in the living room

In a room with a living room and two bedrooms, 3 separate split systems are often installed. One is for the hall, the second is for the room adjacent to it, and the third is for the second bedroom and kitchen. This method is effective, but very expensive.

Meanwhile, in three-room “Khrushchevs” and just not very large apartments, you can get by with two split systems:

  • the living room and the bedroom adjacent to it are equipped in the same way as in the variant with a two-room apartment - they hang an air conditioner with a power of up to 4.5 kW above the doorway in the hall;
  • for the second bedroom and kitchen, a more powerful air conditioning is installed in the hallway, not far from the front door (the drawback is the freon route through the entire kitchen or bedroom).

Especially carefully choose a place for the air conditioner in the nursery. It should not be located above the bed and desk.

For a three-room apartment - "vest" (it is also called a "butterfly") channel air conditioning is best suited. But a great option is a multi-split with a capacity of about 5 kW. Installation of indoor units in the "butterfly" is as follows:

  • separate indoor units are installed in the bedrooms (the choice of wall does not matter, it is only important to consider the location of the bed);
  • the third indoor unit is hung either in a large room above the door, or opposite it in the corridor (the second option is appropriate if the distance between the living room and the kitchen is quite large).

Corner apartment

Flat

Angular living quarters are usually warmer than the rest. Therefore, they should be guided by the usual installation rules, but choose less powerful air conditioners. In addition, a multi-split with two indoor units will always be enough for a three-room corner apartment.

When placing an air conditioner, you need to take into account the size and layout of the apartment, the location of the furniture and many other important details. If you carefully familiarize yourself with these points, then installing a split system will not cause any special difficulties.
