9 tricks for interior design that I no longer use
Designers have many rules on how to make the surrounding space harmonious. They relate to the use of colors, textures, decoration and arrangement of furniture in the apartment. It is important not only to adhere to the standards, but also to avoid the annoying mistakes listed below.
Connecting thresholds
The apartments use different flooring materials, and you need to somehow close the joints. At first it was massive structures in the doorways, which also performed the function of soundproofing. Such thresholds are inconvenient, create obstacles and do not provide the necessary level of ventilation. The main disadvantages:

This stone has long been used to decorate external and internal walls. It is formed on the surface of the earth from various minerals, the deeper it lay - the higher the density it has, and therefore the quality. Fans of such a natural finish note such shortcomings:

- The skin does not absorb moisture, so in the heat, sitting on a sofa or chair, you can "stick" to it.
- The smell of skin is for everybody. When there is a lot of such furniture in the room, the “aroma” will be quite strong.
- The skin is stretched. Those places where they sit more often are deformed and lose their shape.
Caring for leather furniture is expensive.The cost of repair or hauling can cost the price of a new textile sofa. Designers often use high-quality substitute or textured textiles, as there is a fashion for environmental friendliness.
White plastic window sills
The appearance of plastic windows saved apartment owners from noise and dust from the street. Often only white plastic was used for windows and window sills; other colors were expensive or simply absent.
White window sills have serious flaws:
- the surface is rough and porous - do not remove the trace from the handle or felt-tip pen;
- become scratched if cleaned with abrasive products;

Designers advise choosing not pure white for the floor, but bleached gray, milky, beige, with antique look and scuffs. They will be just as bright, but more noble, classic and comfortable.
Outdated colors and textures
Designers advise creating a modern atmosphere, adhering to a certain style, direction. The main mistake of self-decoration is mixing different textures and colors in one interior. It turns out variegation, not style.
And also it is not recommended to use:
- objects and decoration in one pastel color, without using accents;
- panoramic murals;
- dark carpets with ornaments on the walls;
- cheap plastic panels to simulate stone and brick;
- plush and jacquard textiles - upholstery, bedspreads, curtains, sofa pillows.
All of these mistakes make the interior heavier, make it dull and outdated. Sophisticated drawings and textures are only suitable for small accents. Use light fabrics of soothing colors, natural material for accent wall decoration or do not do it at all.
Cucumber Ornaments
The paisley or cucumber ornament has become a classic and is still used in clothing lines by famous fashion houses. The days when it was fashionable to wallpaper with cucumber wall ornament have passed. Any space decorated with cucumbers will create a colorful interior, which will be very difficult to give style to yourself.
Designers recommend using this pattern only in the form of accents for:
- home textiles - cushions, bedding, napkins;
- decorating the walls, putting in a frame like a canvas.
Choose a bright, classic version of the ornament or black and white, it will be fresh and interesting.
Mosaic kitchen apron
An apron for the kitchen is needed, as it protects the wall from water, grease, and other contaminants. Even 10 years ago, the mosaic version was popular - small multi-colored tiles folded into a pattern.
The disadvantages of such an apron:
- together with household appliances, banks, kitchen utensils, the mosaic looks very colorful, stands out from the general style;

If you still love this way of design, then the designers advise:
- make a mosaic of different materials, for example, mirror panels and tempered glass;
- make it chaotic so that the pattern is not traced;
- use complex geometric shapes of parts of one tone - rhombuses, polygons.
