7 common mistakes in repairing the bathroom, which cause only irritation

One of Murphy’s laws states: “Only after the work is completed does it become clear where it should start.” This statement is fully applicable to repairs in the bathroom. Below are the most common mistakes made in this case.

You clad the walls in the bathroom with black glossy tiles

Black walls are a stylish and relevant solution. But the combination of glossy black tiles and the bathroom (especially the placement in the "wet zone") is a fatal mistake. On such a surface, even small drops of dried water are noticeable. Walls will require cleaning regularly, after each contact with water. Otherwise, the design of the room will “decorate” not only a stylish, black tile, but also white lime deposits on it.

You put the cabinet side by side with the bath

Bathroom furniture is made of special moisture resistant MDF. It will easily tolerate increased humidity in the room, but will not withstand regular direct moisture when taking a shower. If you put the cabinet close to the bath, then after several months of use, its side surface will swell and become unusable.

Use only open or closed shelves

In the organic design of the bathroom, both types of shelves are required:

  • open to commonly used items and cosmetics: dispenser with liquid soap, shampoos and balms for every day, hairpins, combs. In addition, in the open space, you can create a decorative composition that serves as a decoration of the room;
  • closure of shelves and cabinets is necessary for storing household cleaning products, various sponges and rags for cleaning, supplies and cosmetics supplies. All these things, placed on open shelves, will create a sense of chaos and disorder. It’s better to hide them behind the doors.

Do not install a boiler

It is better to immediately include the boiler installation in the repair estimate. In an extreme case, provide a place for its placement and an additional outlet, and install the device itself after completion of work. It may be required suddenly: even if the hot water was never turned off, this unpleasant event will happen sooner or later. In families where there are small children, a boiler is a necessary device, which is impossible to do without.

You have not made a recess in the screen for the bath

A small recess in the screen is used for convenient placement of legs and feet. It will be needed when bathing a child or pet, hand washing in a basin or performing other household chores. If this recess is missing, then the person’s legs will rest against the screen and will have to move a little further from it. As a result, splashes and excess moisture will appear.

You did not add sockets to the bathroom

An outlet is necessary not only for connecting a washing machine. It will be required for the operation of the following devices:

  • hairdryer, iron, tongs and other styling devices;
  • electric toothbrush;
  • electric shavers;
  • mains heated towel rail;
  • a boiler;
  • additional light sources (for example, makeup mirror lights).

All installed sockets must be waterproof, that is, have a cover. They must be placed out of reach of the spray.

You use hooks on suction cups

The use of such accessories indicates that during the development of the design all the requirements for storage places were not provided. When implementing the project, it is worth considering in advance the areas for placing stationary hooks for:

  • clothes during the adoption of water procedures;
  • towels according to the number of family members, several types (bath, for the face, legs);
  • washcloths and brushes in the "wet zone";
  • household appliances (stand for hair dryer or curling iron).

There must be a place for soap, toothbrushes, shampoos, balms, gels needed while taking a bath or shower.

Avoiding commonplace mistakes during repairs and making your bathroom a little better will help the recommendations described above. They are relevant and in demand with any design and style of the room.
