What designations should be on the ceramic tile for the floor?

I make repairs in the kitchen and bathroom (combined). I plan to put ceramic tiles on the floor. But I do not know how to choose this material. My neighbors from above last year also laid such a flooring, and now cracks appeared on the tile, and it began to lag behind. When a specialist was invited, it turned out that they had bought the tile for other purposes, that is, it was impossible to lay it on the floor, since it was intended for wall cladding. They bought it, they are through the online store. It turned out that they were deceived. My question is: are there any “identification marks” on the floor tiles so that you can be sure that the “right” material has been purchased.

Of course, not every ceramic tile is suitable for flooring. The reason is quite obvious: the floor is a structure constantly subjected to mechanical loads of various kinds. First of all, floor tiles should be highly resistant to abrasion. And choosing such a ceramic flooring is actually very simple - according to a special marking, which must be applied to the tile:

  • PEI V
  • PEI III
  • PEI II
  • PEI I

Attention! For the floor, only ceramic tiles with the number PEI III and above are suitable.

For flooring, tiles with special characteristics are available.
For flooring, tiles with special characteristics are available.

And yet, pay one important point when choosing a tile - chemical resistance. In your case, this is all the more relevant, because the kitchen and the bathroom are those rooms where the floor is washed very often and with the use of aggressive detergents. So, in addition to the above markings, there should be alphabetic characters on the pack of ceramic tiles:

  • AA
  • AND
  • B

If they are, then this floor tile is suitable.

Well, and the traditional advice - seek advice from specialists. If a purchase through an online store is economically profitable for you, then do not be lazy and visit a retailer to familiarize yourself with goods of this category. And go to several specialized stores, talk with several consultants. Definitely, you will learn enough information to buy the material for the intended purpose.
