What are the disadvantages of cork flooring and can it be laid in a nursery?

Good afternoon, we want to make cork floors in the children's room. Around them they praise for the availability of installation and absolute environmental friendliness. Were in the store - just "sing an ode" to this floor covering. On the Internet, also a solid positive. But all the same, some negative aspects should be present after all. In principle, I like it, but I would like to understand what negative surprises they can present during operation.

The choice of cork floors for a children's device is certainly the right one. Although your opinion that such coverage has disadvantages is also true. Of course, we will talk about the disadvantages of this type of flooring.

  • High price. Cork flooring is one of the most expensive coatings in the world. The device of such floors is far from affordable for everyone.
  • Specific glue. If laying is carried out on an adhesive, then you should know that it has a sharp unpleasant odor. In addition, such a composition is flammable.

Attention! Laying cork floors on glue must occur in compliance with all fire safety standards. Do not smoke or keep open sources of fire indoors.

  • Seasonality. Laying this floor can only be done in the warm season. The reason again is the smell of glue. There is a need for a long and complete ventilation of the room where the cork floor is laid. In summer, this condition is more realistic than in winter. If windows and doors are closed, then it will be physically impossible to be in the room.
  • Care Features. This is especially true for bevelled laying. With such a device, you need to be prepared for frequent and thorough care of the cork surface. This process is time-consuming, since the mud is constantly clogged in the recesses.
  • Pets. If you have any, then consider whether you need this particular material. The fact is that the cork is “afraid” of the claws of pets.
  • Constant dryness. The cork floor will last a long time and will not cause any complaints only if the room is always dry. Humidity is the enemy of cork, like any natural material.

Despite a number of disadvantages, cork flooring still has more advantages. The cork is flexible, has a high level of noise absorption and excellent thermal insulation characteristics, is pleasant with tactile contact and has a great appearance.
