Is it possible to reuse old linoleum?

Please tell us whether it is possible to remake the old linoleum to another place. In two places where the furniture stood, there were small holes on the surface. I want to carefully remove it in the hall and put it in the summer kitchen. Is it possible in principle or still have to buy a new coating in the house and in the summer kitchen?

Good day. The new linoleum is better than the second-hand - you can not argue with this. But if the old one was preserved in good condition, then, of course, it can be reused. But in order for the transfer of such floor material to be performed correctly, certain principles must be observed:

  • If linoleum is firmly glued, then a steel spatula must be used for removal.
  • If you can’t remove it with a spatula, it is necessary to moisten the gluing places with hot water.
  • After removal, the back of the coating must be very thoroughly cleaned.
  • The linoleum prepared in this way is dried and rolled up - the initial diameter should be at least 25 cm. Otherwise, it is likely that the partially lost elasticity material will simply break.

As for the holes in linoleum, patches can be made in these places. Naturally, this will be done when laying the old coating in a new place. Rectangular or rhomboid-shaped pieces larger than the problem areas on the coating are cut from linoleum. A ready patch is laid on a leaky place and is circled with a sharp object (knife or awl). Then a worn linoleum is cut along the outlined line. In the end, it should turn out that the patch is very poorly included in the cut hole.

The base at the repair site is cleaned of dust and lubricated with mastic, a patch is applied to it and pressed with something solid. Fastening the material during repair with nails is not recommended - this place will be too noticeable. To eliminate small cracks and irregularities on linoleum, as well as on polyvinyl chloride tiles, a special putty is used. It is sold in hardware stores. Although, for this same purpose, you can cook yourself a very effective mastic according to this recipe:

  1. Rosin is mixed with alcohols in a ratio of 20: 5. There are added 4 parts of castor oil and paint of the desired color.
  2. Rosin and thickened turpentine mix 1: 4. Dry paint of a certain color is added to this mixture.
