What to do if the laminate is swollen

Hello.

There was a problem: the floor rose. Is this possible due to the slope of the plane from the rooms to the corner of the corridor? The width of the corridor is 1.5 m, the length is 7 m. It was raised by a house in the middle of about 5 m, but at the beginning the side locks began to diverge. There is no gap on the plane in the middle, just a slope. Thank.

Good afternoon, Antonina!

You forgot to write what type of floor is used in your apartment (or house), however, by the phrase “side locks” it can be assumed that this is a widely used laminate flooring. If this is so, then “uplift” due to the fact that the flooring has a bias in one direction, it could not. For the laminate, the geometric flatness of the base is very important, that is, minimal differences in height. Failure to comply with this condition leads to deflection of individual panels and the destruction of locks. As for the slope, this coating will also lie on the surface with an angle of 45 degrees or more.

Most likely, the master who performed the work is to blame for your problem. The fact is that when laying a laminate, a minimum spacing of 8-10 mm from the walls should be made. It is necessary so that the material can expand when the temperature deforms. If the coating was laid close to the walls, then the panels have no choice but to swell.

You have only one way out of the situation - remove all the skirting boards and see which side the laminate panels are clamped on. Well, if the coating does not have the ability to expand in the transverse direction - in this case, only the last boards that were installed last can be dismantled and cut. If the deflection causes the impossibility of longitudinal displacement, then trimming will be more difficult. In order not to shift the entire laminate, you can slightly shorten the panels with a grinder with a metal disk. Of course, one should be careful and careful as much as possible - cutting any fibrous materials with an angle grinder is one of the most traumatic measures.
