Laying plywood in two layers under the parquet board

Hello.

If when laying a parquet board as a lag, not a beam is used, but a 40x40 and 40x80 metal profile pipe, and the distance between the pipes is 550 mm, then what is the thickness of the OSB or plywood under the parquet board sufficient? How many layers of plywood is better to put? For example, in two layers of 20 mm + 10 mm in a checkerboard pattern? Does OSB need to be cut into squares or can I stack 1250 x 2500 sheets?
Thank you very much for your reply!

Anton.

Good afternoon, Anton.

In your case, the distance between the lags will be enough to put one layer of plywood 20 mm thick. Nevertheless, if you decide to lay in two layers with overlapping seams, you can only welcome such an undertaking - the base of the floor will be as monolithic as possible, which is important when using such a finishing material as parquet board. In addition, the tree has excellent thermal insulation, so the floor will be even warmer.

It is not worth cutting OSB or plywood on purpose, however, it is unlikely that it will be possible to lay it in whole sheets - joints must pass through the lags. In addition, laying should be done with partial displacement of the seams, that is, in a checkerboard pattern - this will reduce the load at the joints of individual panels. When cutting lumber, do not forget about its thermal expansion. Please note that during installation between the sheets it will be necessary to leave slots from 5 to 10 mm, while at the walls the gap will have to be doubled. We hope our tips will help you to make a quality floor that will delight you with its durability and beautiful appearance for many years.
