How to paint a concrete floor so that the paint lasts a long time?

I am interested in the answer to a seemingly very banal question: how to paint a concrete floor? The fact is that I bought a garage. He is not in very good condition and I am slowly putting it in order on my own. Now it’s the turn of the concrete floor - I just want to paint it. Everything seems to be clear, but still, I would like to know the opinion of a professional on this subject. Maybe there are some features, the implementation of which will help to ensure that the paint layer lasts a very long time?

Hello! Of course, even such a traditional event as painting the floor requires a sequence of actions and consists of several stages. To highlight the main accents, we list all the points:

  • Foundation preparation. This refers to thorough cleaning of the floor surface, as well as the elimination of all irregularities, sealing cracks, removing stale paint (if the floor was painted earlier).
First you need to eliminate all floor defects
First, all defects in the concrete floor must be removed.

Remember! Only a perfectly smooth concrete floor will allow paint to be applied correctly, which in turn will extend the life of such a protective layer.

  • Humidity check. Before any painting work, including before painting the concrete floor, you need to pay attention to this factor. Definitely, the surface of the concrete base must be dry. This will primarily contribute to the quick drying of the paint. To check the condition of concrete, you just need to paint a small area of the floor first, if after 2 days the paint does not stick on your hands, then there can be no doubt - you can start painting.

Important! Painting of the concrete floor should start from the corner of the room, if there are skirting boards, then in these places you need to paint over this area with a small brush, and the use of masking tape will be more than appropriate.

  • Watch the thickness of the layerI am. It is worth sticking to the golden mean. If you apply a thin layer of paint, then as it dries, it will shine through, and when applied too thick, the paint will warp.
After the paint dries, apply a second coat.
After drying the first, it is worth applying a second coat of paint - this will achieve uniformity of painting
  • In conclusion. At the end of staining, leave the surface to dry for at least 2 days. Then, we recommend going through the paint one more time - the coating will be uniform and will last longer.
