Why the rough floor "walks", and how to fix the situation

Hello.

What to do if a rough floor "walks" in a wooden house?

Hello, Vadim.

It is safe to assume that in your case the floor is walking due to insufficient cross-section of the logs or their installation at a greater than necessary distance. Since the supporting structure does not correspond to the load, it bends - as a result, it turns out that the rough base "walks". To check this assumption, it is necessary to calculate the optimal section and step lag for your conditions and compare with what is available. This can be done both by special formulas (you can easily find them on the Internet), and using online calculators.

Now about how to fix the situation, finding out that the logs are made of not thick enough timber. It is best, of course, to completely redo everything, but no one does this. We also will not advise this because of the complexity and high cost.

In your case, it is recommended to strengthen the supporting structure of the subfloor with cross struts. Having connected all the logs, you will make the base more rigid and resistant to deflection. In addition, use additional supports installed on the ground (if possible). You can make the so-called bedside tables using masonry, placing them in the center of the log. Of course, there is no need to install such a rack under each beam. Focus on the length of the beams and the frequency of their installation - it will be enough to have one support per one linear meter of the width of the base (or even less). After that, the design is guaranteed to cease to “walk” and will provide comfortable and durable operation of the floor in a wooden house.
