Is it permissible to equip the bulk floor directly on the ground?
Hello! I got the idea of increasing the height of the rooms on the lower floor (I have a two-story house). I want to remove the floor completely and pour the polymer coating directly onto the aligned clay base. Is there any way to do this? Perhaps you should take into account some nuances? Thank.
Hello! We are forced to disappoint you - you can’t do without a screed, whatever one may say. If only because the bulk floor will not have any adhesion to clay. The nature of these substances is incompatible. And then, how in “given conditions” do you imagine the process of leveling such coverage? And the procedure is extremely important.
What can happen if you still decide on an "experiment"? In less than a couple of months, cracks will appear underfoot. The guarantee of durability of a bulk floor is an equal, competently prepared basis. And clay, no matter how smooth it is, will still remain hilly.
So we form a screed necessarily! Those a couple of centimeters that you try to win will eventually result in additional costs for the overhaul of the floor.
If the condition of your floor and without the desire to increase the height of the rooms leaves much to be desired, we recommend doing so:
- compact the soil;
- form a layer of backfill (sand + crushed stone). If the groundwater level “allows”, crushed stone can be replaced with expanded clay;
- make a rough screed (performed on a plastic film);
- waterproof the surface with ruberoid in one or two layers;
- insulate the floor (use polystyrene or EPS);
- equip the final reinforced screed.
After three to four weeks, you can fill in the liquid bulk floor (up to 5 millimeters, thin layer) on a surface cleaned and primed with a special composition. Line the mixture with the longest rule. Thus, you will get an almost perfect floor, its maximum difference will be 1 millimeter.
All repair and construction work is best performed in accordance with existing standards, based on many years of experience of professionals. The desire to save money has never led to anything good.
