What cork substrate to choose for parquet - analysis of the main parameters

Good afternoon! I'm interested in cork underlay. What is the best substrate for home for parquet? Sheet or roll? Coarse or fine? What should be the thickness of the substrate? Manufacturer, etc. Maximum information. Thanks in advance. Vadim.

Hello, Vadim! Laying parquet and other finishing flooring is done on a substrate that provides soundproofing of the floor. Cork substrate is an environmentally friendly material, as it is made from natural crushed bark of cork oak. The material does not emit substances hazardous to human health, as it does not contain any chemical additives.

Sheet or roll?

Cork substrates are available in the form of sheets and in the form of rolls. In this case, sheet materials are best used for soundproofing walls and ceilings, as well as for filling internal interior partitions. Roll materials are recommended to be used as a substrate for flooring. Their installation is very simple.

The material is cut into sheets of the desired length, which are laid back to back on top of a plastic film that provides vapor barrier. The joint of adjacent substrate paintings is glued with construction tape, the width of which should be at least 50 mm. Unlike the sheet substrate, the roll counter does not need to be glued to the surface of the base base.

Important! The thickness of the cork underlay for parquet should be 2 mm. In this case, the base of the base floor must be carefully aligned.

A substrate larger than 2 mm is not advisable to use - it is more expensive

Fine-grained or coarse-grained?

The granularity index of cork chips is important for cork flooring, since the combination of fine-grained and coarse-grained fractions allows you to give the coating a special decorative look. In the manufacture of cork substrates, careful selection of crumbs by size is not carried out.

Top manufacturers

The most popular are cork substrates of Portuguese manufacturers. You can safely buy products from the brands Aberhof, Maestro Club, Ipocork, Grun & Wald Amorim and others. Parkolag cork backing has proven itself on the market.
